From the Canadian newspapers, the only architectual news this week is the unveiling today of the newn Gehry design for Toronto....

according to insiders: "It's a new Frank Gehry design," the source said after the event. "There aren't big gull wings and things or giant fish shapes."

So who is more important - a celebrity architect or a large envelope of cash from a benefactor?

I see that once again, the design has been rethinked:

So will this be the final final design, or just the first of the final designs.

City Council approved the Art Gallery of Ontario's expansion plans yesterday, clearing the way for architect Frank Gehry's first public building in his former hometown.

The $195-million plans, altered after neighbours complained about the massive structure proposed, were approved at the Toronto and East York Community Council meeting earlier this month. City council also passed an amendment to restrict further development south of the site.

The AGO hopes to begin construction next year and finish it by the fall of 2008.
