Ballincollig Town Centre
What do people think of the plans for Ballincollig Town centre which has just commenced construction.
Just for a bit of background info the development is taking place on the site of a former army barracks which occupies the entire right hand side of the main street in the town. The plans are extensive and include a mixture of retail, office, residential and car parking. A new information centre has just opened on the main street in Ballincollig if anyone is interested.

Re: Ballincollig Town Centre
Could I revive this thread? The latest casualty of modernisation in Ballincollig is the planned demolition of the old garda station. This is a Victorian red brick building which used to house adjutants from the barracks.
A new garda station is currently under construction-not before time- but sadly the OPW/Garda Siochana have deemed there is little architectural merit in the old station and it is due to be razed to make way for a car park for the new station. Ballincollig Heritage Association have launched a last minute ipetition: see http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save_old_ballincollig_garda_station/

A photo of ]old station is on the petition. It used to be flanked to the left by another similar house which was in a derelict condiiton. The most recent photo shows the new unfinished station about 15 feet from the old building which stands above the Main Street rather like an island. See attachment
