Road and rail links to meet at new Metroplaza
An elaborate complex of steel, glass and concrete could bring up to 7,000 jobs to Swords as part of the Metro North project. The Metroplaza will be the centrepiece of the new rail infrastructure straddling the old N1 Dublin to Belfast road. It was estimated at €4.58bn in 2004 but may now cost less because of the building sector slump. It will include a metro platform, a major road bridge, a canopied curved pedestrian bridge and bus interchange. Fingal County Council this week gave the go-ahead for the development, which will be near the entrance to the Pavilions Shopping Centre. Metro North will initially have 15 stops at St Stephen’s Green, O’Connell Bridge, Parnell Square, Mater Hospital, Drumcondra, Griffith Avenue, Dublin City University, Ballymun, Northwood, Dardistown, Dublin Airport, Fosterstown, Swords, Seatown and Belinstown.
