Irish Pavilion – Shanghai Expo 2010

The Ireland pavilion, designed by OPW – Architectural Services, occupies a site of 3,000 sqm and contains 13 galleries, a temporary exhibition centre, a courtyard performance plaza and a hospitality suite for business and promotional use.

Among the 195 national contributions, the Ireland pavilion enjoyed a tremendously successful first day, receiving almost 15,000 visitors. Queues of interested visitors stretched around the building all day. Ireland’s contribution to Expo has been very favourably received by visitors and it is consistently rated among the top 10 pavilions. China Daily, the largest circulation English language newspaper, recommended Ireland and Germany among the European pavilions to assist their readers to make the most of a ‘once in a lifetime’experience to visit Expo.

Expo 2010 commenced today in Shanghai, China and sets new standards for these historic events. The first Exposition to be hosted by a developing country, it has attracted the largest ever international participation and is expected to receive over 70 million visitors before closing on 31 October.
