Knew the Cuffe St. chimneys would grab attention. Anyone know what the building on Kevin St. was? Large openings at street level. Was thinking old firestation perhaps?

I could be wrong but I think the upper stories were subsequently lopped off the buildings on the corner and they remain an "American" style bar called TPs lounge before being redeveloped in the 2000s.

TBH, the "openings" don't look quite wide enough to accommodate the old style horse drawn fire appliances. I think they look like shop fronts which have been bricked up....possibly in advance of demolition.

Yeah, thebig C, that building was reduced down to a single storey - had a curved corner on it too.
I know, I was grasping re the Kevin Street building.

I don't know what this building was, it's not given any label on any of the O.S. maps, so it doesn't seem to have been a public building. That said, it does look a lot like the work of C.J. McCarthy [son of J.J.] who was City Architect around 1900, when all those similar fire stations were being built. C.J. designed the Corpo Library on Kevin St. and one of the buildings in the old Tech directly opposite the building in question, so maybe it was a nixer.

Just looking at the pic again Paul. Judging by the unusual relief on the facade and the lack of symetrics between the gabled portion and the rest of the building....it looks suspiciously like there was a poorly executed (and cheaper) extention at some point.

Just found out, the building highlighted above in white was the Bricklayers Hall
