Rathmines Library
Hi,
Surprised no one threw up some pictures or a link of this recent renovation. I came across it by chance myself (it used to be my local library for 5 years) and since the Ballyroan one is now starting renovation this weekend for about 18 months, I had to sign up to this one again.
Pleasantly surprised and I think they did a fantastic job. Enjoy.

Nice interior design job . . . . but it doesn't look like they've cluttered the place up with too many actual books

Clean and pleasant, but I for one prefered the dusty and occasionally dark interior of old.. And I agree with Gunter about the books, but then again, comfy couches are vital when you want to sip a latte and skim through the latest Dan Brown, so space had to be made

After the 2 year wait I've yet to see the lift being used
It's nice but there is a lot less seating and books.

The interior looks bright, modern and clean - everything you don't want in a library
. Shame the furniture looks so cheap. Did they run out of money. Some more books would have been nice too. It feels like a combination between a waiting room and an Internet cafe.

Not convinced it is too bright; many libraries are quite bright; the exterior scrubbed up really well;

I absolutely hate it! It was my local library for a long time. It looks lovely in the photos, but in real life it looks like a cheap job. The staircase - no change, maybe a little cleaner. The grey bookcases - well, they used to be wooden bookcases. Now they look like mdf. The impressive desk at the entrance - gone. Not happy. Nor is anyone I've spoken to.
