Grand Canal Cycle Way

Came across these monstrosities on the Canal this morning. Is this DCC's worst balls up yet?
Why could they not use the model adopted by other cites in Europe?
These things are motorway lights and not at all suited to a canal bank setting. Patrick Kavanagh's statue will probably throw itself in the canal when they get down as far as him.

Fine idea in principle but very heavy handed final touch there.
