I remember going to sign on with about 41/2 years of 'contractors' stamps paid in, expecting to get Unemployment Benefit about 10 years ago. The guy behind the hatch actually laughed at me for thinking those stamps would cover me.
Luckily (:mad:) I hadn't a bean to my name or was co-habiting with someone who had a job at the time so actually got UA after much wrangling. I still to this day don't know why anyone not formally employed/PAYE actually pays PRSI.
