I honestly didn't believe the Leprachaun Museum existed. I thought it was a joke. It's in the old FAS office on Jervis St. You couldn't pay me to go in.

Ignore the name, it's tongue in cheek, I checked it out and it's a bit of fun, really aimed at children but amusing enough for anyone. There's no cheese or plastic paddy nonsense, it's a simple intro to traditional irish mythology for children with some fun installations and a genuinely enthusiastic and intelligent staff.

Don't knock the Leprechaun Museum, it's good stuff, a nice little addition to Dublin's tourist offerings and not in the slightest bit demeaning.

I regret to note the plethora of unauthorised fabric banner signage now adorning the building. The operators really should rectify.

A few months ago I stepped in to the NLM in the old Fas building out of curiosity. I was very amused at the way the receptionist, before I said a word, proclaimed that it is not really about leprechauns at all, more about all things mystical and mythical in Irish folklore. She genuinely appeared embarrassed by the name of the place. I'm still wondering what sort of business plan must have been put together to get this thing going.

Another great accolade for Dublin anyway. We don't have a science museum, but we have the best leprechaun museum in the world.

On the actual Fas building itself for a moment, when it was relet a while ago there was some mention of it being redeveloped. It's in the same school as the John Player factory, SCR, and the Wiggins Teape building. If it was demolished, would it be a loss?

Is it a Protected Structure? I don't think so. In fact I think a move was made to list the building a few years back. Its not a bad building. It certainly needs reglazing. And the frontage onto Wolfe Tone Square is poor and could be remodelled.
I don't think the banners are too objectionable (as long as they have PP). The larger banners for Ben Dunne's new gym are a temporary measure I suppose but what happens when the gym is open. I reckon this will be an ongoing issue for this building.
