Again, this highlights in such very stark terms Dublin's lack of ceremonial civic space and a central, if not two or three, congregation points. Obvious planning virtues aside, in purely social terms, it is interesting to observe how people gravitate towards the environs of Christ Church as a natural gathering point (if a medieval bell tower also aiding matters on this particular occasion).
If there was to be a singular outcome of the public realm brief of the new Development Plan over the course of the next five years, it must surely be the creation of two civic spaces at College Green and Christchurch Place (which incidentally should simply be renamed Christ Church - enough of that 1970s anonymity). Such a development would simply transform the image of the city. Alas, the practicalities of such an aspiration are another matter entirely.
