DIT does not have any model making facilities. All DIT has is its reputation, one which is rapidly diminishing.
If UCD have any model making facilities at all, then that makes them better than DIT's.

UL have decent facilities, they've a little workshop right next to the main studio area.

UCD has, or did at least, have fairly good model facilities, a large wood workshop, plenty of outdoor space that could be appropriated, and recently I hear rumour that they have acquired such technological wonders as laser cuters and a "rapid prototyper", though I'll believe it when I see it.

DIT does have model makng facillities but they're for the Product Design course DT001.

second & third year DIT students are in Linen hall, but its not much use thanks to insurance crap. (as in you could use a band saw and a lathe in first year in secondry school but 7 years later you become an insurance risk!) it is possible to get people to do it for you though and to get the loan of a hand saw (depending on who you meet)
UCD do have a laser cutter which was pretty clear by all the detailed balconys on models... but it does add a nice brown colour to the card.

As a DIT student I am very jealous of UCD's lazer cutter. Just look at their end of year show models.
