None of those proposals are doing it to me in an architectural sense.
The sheds would still need to be pulled but doesn't matter the master of sheds visit Ireland on regular occasions?

as ever its ridiculous to suggest something that been derelict for decades is the fault of rbb who only been on this issue really for the last few years, and only just become a councillor, how about you lay the blame on those responsible. but I did read recently that john de courcy was in the swp and campaigned against the marina possibly in lieu of sea industry usage for the space...ala rbb

do you really think that overblown proposal would be built now if it had got permission?

anyway a proper asbestos disposal company is doing the job afaik so that negates rbb current concerns.

The existing doesn't seem to add much to any sense of heritage; unfortunately, most of the replacements seem over-scaled and as ugly as sin. Missarchi's post is a bit nearer the mark, but both it and the Dutch example are obsesssed with the flat-roofed, orthogonal shed model. Pitched roofs, gables and curved pavilions are allowed you know.

Shameful that something so historic can be disregarded.
This could have been restored & then relocate the maritime museam, possibly an exhibition space...i'm sure there are plenty of suggestions.
It wouldnt have had to be restored to the level of CHQ in the docks either.

Last year at the festival of world cultures in Dun Laoghaire they had a stage area just in the carpark where the digger can be seen in the photo & it was an amazing setting with the grand stucture looming above the stage & the harbour to the left of the stage

I always thought this was a complete eyesore but actually never realised what lay beneath. I've a bit of an obsession for Victorian structure especially Railway Architecture.

This is such a waste. DLR should be ashamed.

when dlr probably think they've saved as a much as they can the iron uprights, other may think they could have restored more of it.

why couldn't have they done this years ago?

The work demolition/clearance work is nearly finished - a great improvement on what was there, nice views across to the YC. Supposedly by next summer there will be a pedestrian walkway down the east side of the pier, some of the surface space being used as parking / open space / site for farmer's market. Also, work has started on the assembly of the covered seating area above the bandstand on the East Pier. Rough time to start that work!
