Re: Point Village
it's over a year old anyway. But just as well because the foundations have been covered over. Surely they'll be dug up in the future?

Re: Point Village
I met a guy last night who's company is installing the air con in the Point Village and he mentioned that they are removing the 'cap' from the Point Watchtower foundations and filling it in with concrete. It seems that the mesh and tar that they used to fill in that space wouldn't support the weight of vehicles and whatever else is to go there. I think this is a waste of solid infrastructure,,,,,here's hoping they make up for it with good amenities in 'The Parlour'.

The market he is planning there sounds nice and all but unless footfall in the docklands can increase by about 4 trillion percent then it's going to quickly fail.
Why not renovate and set up a real, decent market at Ivaegh Market?! It could be beautiful.
City Markets framework plan you say? Well when was the last time we heard anything about that...
Anyway, Point Village. 2014. Does this include the Liffey Man?

Re: Point Village
no, it doesn't include liffey man, I'd imagine it includes the watchtower and the district centre, but now the foundations are under concrete, so digging them back up again might a bit of a task.

I don't know where in that article you got "point village ready for 2014"
It simply says that the "Parlor" will stay there 'till 2014.
That means the chance of the watchtower springing up in the next 4 years are low, unless they've devised some system to build through occupied space.
Someday though....we'll have a shiny building that's taller than anything you could see in Cork.....Someday.....

ok, so maybe construction will resume in 2014 but they can chose to occupy the space on front of the tower with the market. Maybe the market + some builders on site may bring a bit of a daytime buzz to the area.

Re: Point Village
They could ,but they won't because they don't have the economic lubrication required to start work on the tower.. the market is partially on top of the watchtower foundations...Can't see too many market-goers sticking around to long with the sounds of pneumatic drills ringing in their ears either.
