old neon in dublin
found a copy of a book aimed at tourists published in 1960 but I reckon the photos are late 1950s
anyway these shots grabbed my eye - all the neon and signage...
Eden Quay - the Corinthian and the Astor is all their glory and some Players Please...
D'olier and Westmoreland - "Fly Aer Lingus" and "Donnelly's Sausages"
Manfield Chambers
Nelson brought to you by Esso

Re: old neon in dublin
it served as a smoke stack between1915 and 1972 for Government Buildings.. It was built as a campanile on the university buildings of Earlsfort Terrace in the 1880s. It was dismantled and re-erected at Kildare Place by RM Butler in 1915. When it was on Earlsfort Terrace, it had a clock dial and bell originally from the GPO.

It was removed for security reasons wasn't it - overlooking Govt Bldgs...
The clunky chimney pot thingey wasn't on it originally suffice to say!
On a related issue, does anyone know what this yoke is or when it dates from, to the rear of the NCH?
Kept meaning to post it for months.
So much for Neon Dublin - great pics, if you're into that sort of thing
