Dublin Zeppelin
Temple Bar Properties want to put a sight-seeing balloon over the River Liffey at Wood Quay.
It would be permanently moored with a metal rope and could take 30 passengers each time 250 metres above the city.
I know Paul has already linked this on the homepage but here's the address again

Any thoughts?

What an amusingly appropriate counterpoint ( no pun intended ) to the Spike !!!
I know of two examples. One's in Brighton ( tiny and unimpressive ) and the other I saw recently on a visit to Rome in the Gardens of the Borgia palace ( looked lovely lit up by internal lights in the fading evening light ). Also seen in Genoa was Renzo Piano's cable lift in the docklands, much more impressive and great fun.
Given the Gravity Bar and the Chimney do we really need another high vantage point from which to gaze upon the city and in particular Temple bar(f)?

zeppelin
sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. this idea if it happens could be a great addition to the city. all you can do with the spike is look at it but a zeppelin would be a great way to get a birdseye view of dublin. i am no expert but surely it would be a feasile project financially or it wouldnt be on the cards.
every time i come home it is great to just walk around the city and check out any new stuff good or bad. i'd queue up to take off too!!!

I think this is a great idea. I'd love to try it out. Really this is what i wanted the Spike to be - somethis you could go up and survey the city from the capital's main street.
I was reading today that the head of the Temple Bar residents association opposed it saying would bring an undesirable element to that part of Temple Bar - seemed funny when the businesses down there are crying out for footfall down the streets of the cornily named 'Old Town'.

Now there's an idea, a floating airborne prison to replace Mountjoy:DOriginally posted by emf
Everything looks better from a distance so perhaps views from 250m will obscure the un-savoury elements that exist in the quarter!
