Plan to remould Dublin to be unveiled today

A plan to remould Dublin into its traditional layout as a city of villages is being unveiled today. The Dublin City Development Board's ten year strategy calls for the creation of around twenty-five neighbourhoods each containing about twenty thousand people. All publicly funded organisations will be required to adapt their own plans to fit the strategy that is expected to be copied by other Dublin authorities. The Board's Director, Peter Finnegan, says a cornerstone of the plan will be the establishment of neighbourhood centres: "Dublin City Council has begun this process, a kind of a one stop shop where all the state services that people need to access will be available to them and that includes the kind of integrated health centre that the Health Strategy envisages, it includes the provision of the education and training service supports, it includes the provision of Gardaí."

I think this is something to do with the 'City of Possibilites' project the Council has initiated. I went to the public consultation...it was quite interesting. They have a website http://www.dublin.ie

It's a shame half or more of the population of the city will be excluded from this...

I haven't looked in detail but it seems very wishy-washy to me. I had expected the neighbourhoods in which services to be centered to at least be identified, but they're not (that I could see).

Each chapter such as "A safer city", a "greener city" etc. has a load of aspirations that you would not be able to fault - for example "Crime can and should be prevented"
these are followed by a table with a row entitled "What?" and one entitled "Why?"
It would be good to see this followed up with "How"....
Instead there's a strategy objective which just rephrases the issue again, eg : engage young people in making homes, schools and communities safe through crime violence and drug abuse prevention efforts. with no indication of how it will be done.

There's no indication of which implementing agency is responsible for each objective and so there's no tracability. Which will make everything mentioned in Moving Strategy to action extremely hard to implement and monitor.

Still hope a lot of good comes out of it...

Was not the objectives of the already launched Integrated Area Plans (IAPs covering the Coombe, HARP, KIlmainham Inchicore areas etc ) to achieve what is being repeated in this remoulding document ? Is this an admission that the IAPs are not going to PLAN.
