Unfinished/Halted Sites due to Economic Collapse
I'm researching the fall-out from the collapse in the construction industry in Ireland and I would greatly appreciate any information on sites which have been abandoned/halted. Address, Project Info, Contractor/Developer/Architect involved etc.
Thanks
Thanks

many sites abandoned or mothballed. Your list would be very long - sadly

One of the more impressive is surely the Parkway Valley site on the Castletroy side of Limerick. Planned to be the largest shopping centre in Munster I believe, with an ice rink (originally cinema). A large amount of the basic structure built (lift shafts, structural girders, etc.) and 8 cranes sitting idle since early last year.
A true monument to the Celtic Tiger era madness.

The hotel up in Kilternan in the Dublin Mountains seems to be completely stalled. Its a massive site and has been idle for a good few months now.

Just seen on TV3 news that while property acquisition and some site preparation has taken place at Newlands Cross, the project has been shelved. Just green boards around the site for the next few years I guess

Seems to me that suspending development on the Kilternan monolith is doing the area a favour.

Well, according to TV3 it is...although I wouldn't consider them the most trustworthy news source

It is shelved. The NRA aren't proceeding with any major road projects this year.

yep its on the long finger - initial work to move the dublin - cork gas pipeline to facilitate construction had started prior to the decision to stall, and will continue, but thats about it for now.

the entire north fringe.
In Focus: Northern Fringe project remains unfinished

John Kilraine, Dublin Correspondent, reports that the ambitious project's future development is now in doubt because of the recession
the council spokesperson congratulates herself for the delay because now the people moving in will have facilities, what about the people already there years?
