Re: do you prefer stone or steel?
I think both shouold be used, the concrete woiuld fit in better in areas with more modern architecture. The steel ones like the Paris metro would fit in better in historical areas like Stephens Green and Westmoreland Street where as concrete might be better for O'Connell Street because of it's modern Style pavements etc

Sadly, stone cries out for 'artists' who like to scrawl their illegible tags everywhere.

Yep. For ease of maintenance, it has to be steel. Easier to remove stains, chewing gum, etc. from it too.

Re: do you prefer stone or steel?
the whole issue of this thread is that I feel the RPA have made a mistake with glass...
I can see it being cheaper to install build but maint. wise cost and wear and tear it will look like crap?
another vote for cast iron

Metal theft presents growing problem...
In response to what it described as “a growing problemâ€, the Home Office launched the National Metal Theft Crime Unit last month. The unit aims to clamp down on rogue scrap metal dealers who handle stolen metal.

“Glass is a very attractive material, but it can effectively be used as shrapnel. We can do things – forms of lamination, how you fix it to frames – and the difference it makes to the level of casualties is absolutely dramatic.â€
