Ive just read this quote from the Irish TImes
David O'Connor, Fingal County Council manager, said not having architectural staff is causing some local authorities to miss out on good development opportunities. "In some situations protected buildings can cause problems for local authorities that are looking to develop an area. "An architect can take what seems like a problem and more often than not find ways to use that building and give an area a new lease of life," he said.[/I]
Im from Fingal, a county which has been developing souless housing estates on farmland at an incredible rate for the last 15 years so its quite depressing that Mr O'Connor see the precious few remaining historic areas as "problems" I understand that he is not suggesting that we level all our historic areas but it would be nice if he could see the historic environment as an asset to be protected.
