Retention

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what happens if you buy a house that requires retention for an extension(in Co. Kildare). I don't know much about planning laws but this is an unusual renovation of what was originally a traditional cottage. Size and price would be ideal for us; but I don't want to get involved at all if I'm going to end up completely out of my depth! Can anyone give advice about costs etc in this kind of situation and what the worst case scenario would be? Thanks.

Could you clarify what the status of the unauthorised extension is from one of the following options

1> Enforcement notice served by Kildare Co Co directing removal of extension

2> Extension has been built over 5 years ago

3> Extension has been built but has no enforcement complaint has been made
