The Baragovo Semenisce (The Baraga Seminary) 1936-1941
This was designed by Plecnik as the new seminary for the Archdiocese of Ljubljana and partially realized betreen 1936 and 1941. It was intended to be cylendrical and dew inspiration from the Colosseum in Rome and from the Castel San'Angelo. The war overtook the building process. Those parts arelady completed were occupied by the nazis and subsequently by the communists. The building was not "denationalized" and now serves as a student hostel. I presume that Plecnik was not suggesting that the Ljubljana seminary was to be a place of detention and martyrdom!!

The Peglezen (iron) House 1933-1934
The house was built on a very narrow strip of land between Poljanska Street and Kapiteljska Street occupying the site of an earlier house destroyed by the earthquake of 1895. It was financed privately by Matko Prelovsek and his wife Elza. The poljanska street elevation comprises of large arched windowas on the ground floor, wndows with segmented arches on the first floor, a row of windows on the second floor ending in a conservatory enclosed by five pairs of columns, and smaller windows on a third floor. A laundry was built on the very top of the houseconnected by a visible spiral staircase. The elevation of the Kapiteljska Street is much less elaborate.

Believe me it is one of the most beautiful and elegant structures that I have seen - and the heavy rain did not take from it!! The humanity of its proportions serve to make the city one of the must habitable and well planned anywhere in the world.

The Column of the Immaculate Conception, Levstikov trg, Ljubljana 1938
The small square surrounding the column is demakcated by spherical boundary stones and by rows of clipped maple tress arranged ten to a row along the boundary - all alluding to a rosary beads.

Does Gandon Editions ever want to be contacted by anyone? Or is like Heiniken and the Danes.. they just can bear seeing their books leave Oysterhaven. How does one contact them?
