Il Ponticello Charrette

The Lachine Canal was for many years the economic center of Canada before it eventually lost its splendor. After the 2002 Montreal Summit, the canal was reborn through the vision of new investors to create a profitable waterfront. Il Ponticello, a recreo-touristic complex, is one of the numerous projects that have as a mission to revitalize the canal. The complex offers a 400-seat restaurant/dinner theater, a cigar lounge, a bistro, conference rooms, receptionhalls, a belvedere, a cafe-terrace, a terrace along the waterfront, and gondola rides on the canal. Its promoter, Robert Stopponi, who has almost 40 years experience in the construction field, is now looking for young architects and designers to explore and visualize the project.

The charrette will start as soon as the participant receives the necessary documents: site plan, plan and elevations of the building, and images and pictures of the site. The project consists of planning a layout of a terrace, a dock, and a public space, which includes urban fixtures, ground treatment, and the dock integration. It is important that one must be able to "feel a certain ambiance" from the image. It must show a day-to-day context, including for example: people, cars, gondola, etc.

Entries will be judged for originality, feasibility and presentation.

You may register by emailing the address listed below stating your name, address and field of work or study. Upon completion of registration, each participant will receive a unique identification number and a zipped file with all necessary documents. Registration may be as an individual or as a team.

Each entry must include 3 images, 1024x768 pixels at 72 dpi:
- One image showing the site's southwest perspective
- One image showing the site's northwest perspective
- One image showing the project's details (docks, tables, terrace...)
500 words describing the project
(note: finalists and winners will be required to provide 300dpi images)
