architecture on tv
This Sunday on the box...
"Dreamspaces" (BBC 2, 12.30 pm) More tasters from that spanking new BBC Three channel. This show is for people who like Archeire.com - it's a series on modern architecture and design. Architect/presenter Charlie Luxton is in New York City, where some big names in fashion are commissioning A-list architects to design their flagship stores. Charlie checks out Rem Koolhaas's new store for Prada, Frank Gehry's designs for Issey Miyake and Dominic Kozersky's latest outlet for Donna Karan. Architecture graduate Justine Frischmann (yep, yer wan from Elastica) visits Puerto Rico "to sample its hippest hotels, coolest restaurants and to explore its striking legacy of Fifties buildings". And architect David Adjaye travels to Lyon, to show that libraries needn't be stuffy, boring, uninspiring places. There's also a profile of architectural giant Mies van der Rohe, and comedian Dave Gorman wangs on about his favourite modern building: Canary Wharf Jubilee Line Underground Station.
