How to think differently about culture, community and development is the
subject of an invited conference, CREATIVE CITIES: RENEWING NEW YORK on
Tuesday, October 23rd at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City,
Queens. Co-sponsored by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Van
Alen Institute, and The British Council, and organized as a key event of the
UKwithNY FESTIVAL, this international interdisciplinary symposium sets the
Long Island City discussion in the larger context of urban transformation
and renewal. Focusing specifically on the district extending from Queens
Plaza to Queens West, the conference will compare and contrast the area's
unique challenges with recent experience in the London districts of
Shoreditch, Docklands, and Southwark....
