Crystal Palace Archival Footage

Postby phil » Wed Apr 05, 2006 5:58 pm

Here is a piece of archival footage of The Crystal Palace on fire for anyone interested. I think it really puts into perspective just how important it was in terms of the history of modern architecture, and of course, how big it was.

Thanks for that Phil. As far as I know the two towers remained intact, but were removed about 3 years later at the beginning of the War, as they stood as easily recognisable landmarks for German bombers locating London :(

Is it two billions that is mentioned as being the rebuilding cost for the Palace?!

Thanks Graham, I was wondering what happened to those two towers. They certainly didn't look like they were damaged during that fire.
