I went to Edinburgh for 5 years. Its a brilliant city to be a student in. Dundee is pretty dull in comparison. The school has a reasonably good rep though. The whole good rep/bad rep idea is crap though, all the schools have their good sides and bad, good tutors and bad tutors etc... I totally believe it's worth leaving Ireland though, opens up the mind.....

To be honest haven't heard much about Dundee , good or bad, but you should look into Strathclyde University ,Glasgow. Usually overshadowed by the Macintosh , but in recent years has surpassed most architectural schools in scotland. Of course i'm biased as i studied my Diploma there, but its very progressive .Have a look at the website www.strath.ac.uk.

Can't really comment personally re: the architecture course at Dundee, although i studied my Msc building conservation pg, at Ducan of Jordanstone, Uni Dundee. However the school has a very good rep and i was impressed with the facilities that were available to the students. The staff were also very helpful and approachable. As for Dundee, it is small, but offers loads of scope for socialising, with the irish contributing to a very high % of the student population - which is a good thing of course! The architects that i know who studied there, all managed to return home and are now working for well known practices in the north.

As an ex student from dundee.....(duncan of jordanstone joined with the university) i can tell you it is like a mini irish colony....no matter how much i give out about the place i is a pleasent place to go to college. however be careful because before i left there was talk of it losing its part 3...don't know what became of that. Edinburgh is a better university and much better place to live but there is a lot of fun in dundee and cheap booze in the students union.
