i am currently looking into a thesis topic along the lines of the quality of open urban spaces with regards to its physical qualities (i.e. microclimate, thermal, visual and audible comfort, urban morphology, etc.) and how these variables can inform planning and design policy. if anyone has some good references with regards to user evaluations of the microclimate and comfort conditions in the real world setting it would be greatly appreciated!

Try having a look at the work of Jan Gehl. You probably already have, but I just thought it might be of relvevance to what you are doing.
