Design making an impact on rural communities - from TED.com

A pair of architects working in a small community (pop 2000) in rural USA of how design can have a profound effect on a community.

Emily Pilloton: Teaching design for change - Design making impact on rural communities

Designer Emily Pilloton moved to rural Bertie County, in North Carolina, to engage in a bold experiment of design-led community transformation. She's teaching a design-build class called Studio H that engages high schoolers' minds and bodies while bringing smart design and new opportunities to the poorest county in the state.

Are there are any similar Irish examples?
Thanks in advance.

A good idea from a real positive girl.
A throwback to the first crops of social science students of the late '60s and early '70s
here in Ireland . . .
Oh, they were lovely.
But where are they all gone now ?
Och, ochón !
