Christchurch has been deconsecrated as a Church of Ireland place of worship for a good many years. From late 1970's it was the home to the Cork City and County Archives.
With a purpose built Archive now provided for in Blackpool, the space has been vacated for about two years.
Triskel's development on their Tobin Street site was directly influenced by the future option to develop the Christchurch building.
A concert venue/ large exhibition space is planned for the site, retaining much of the exisiting building fabric. It will be linked to the Triskel centre via a glass atrium.
Nearby, Christchurch lane will be incorporated into Bishop Lucey Park (although retained in some fashion with distinct paving. This will bring the park right up beside the church building.
The project design team consists of Murray Ó Laoire Architects, Bruce Shaw Partnership and John O’Donovan Consulting Engineers. Joseph Lane and Sons are main contractors.
