There is a lot of farmhouses that were converted to 2 storeys (from long thatched cottages with attics) in the late 1940s/early 1950s.
They are now in need of further moderninsing.
Common problems include insulation of old stone walls, extensions/granny flats, direct access to lounge from outside (i.e. no need to go through old kitchen), optimisation of space, improvement of natural light to interiors, heating/hot-water re-arrangement, etc.
But the essential traditional farmhouse features would need to be respected.
Are there architects who really specialise in this kind of work, as opposed to try-their-hand types ?
Can anyone link me to such an architect's portfolio ?
