O'Connell Street info resources??

O'Connell Street info resources??

Postby johnbo » Tue Nov 18, 2003 2:22 pm

Apart from the obvious Peter Pearson and Frank McDonald books, can anyone suggest where I might find anymore information resources on our beloved main street??
Be it from an obscure book, the web or the old skool style of talking to somebody.

Id particulaurily like to get my hands on some interesting photos or some not-very-well-known stories of the street and surrounding areas.

I would also like to find out a bit more on the trams and busses that used to run up and down the street

Any ideas??

Cheers

'dublin an urban history' by niall mc coulogh is always a good one. available in most decent book shops. the civic museum beside powerscourt house in town will tell you all you need to know.

Great, thanks for that. Also wondering, the big 'compound' at the Liffey End of O'Connell St (opp. Burger King) - is that some sort of LUAS transport hub or what? Is there any document I can get a hold of that specifically talks about the plan for Public transport and O'Connell St?

Thanks again

Check out the City Council site link below which has the local area plan. The Luas works are for a traction substation. There's a vent shaft which will eventually be incorporated into a kiosk near the statue.
