My dad uses a term for people like the O'Callaghan's and Charlie Haughey types of this world:
'The Napoleon Complex'
Meaning: "If it's good for me, it's good for the country".

Yes he (O'Callaghan, not John's Father)should get a medal alright, the "Pulling down the last bit of Architecture in Fenian Street award".Or perhaps the award for making another Lower Mount Street. Or how about the getting away without a fine/imprisonment award, (The Haughey Medal).
Yeah, sure the street was a bit decrepid before O'Callaghan and his merry men started putting Offices and Hotels on it. But the only decent thing left on Fenian Street is the Gingerman pub (No doubt he has eyes on that too). Another canyon of blandness decends on Dublin.
O'Callaghan's quote reminds me of Paidraig Flynn on the Late Late Show last year saying how great he was etc, and how everyone else thought he was a complete gobshite. A message to you Mr O'Callaghan, I think you're a gobshite as well.

The Gingerman pub - is that the one with the lovely round Stained glass windows?
I passed it last week and admired it again.
What's it like inside? I was a bit reluctant to look.

I reckon that you are thinking of the Windjammer on Lombard Street - The Gingerman has a green timber facade and very nice toasted sadwiches.
