Trellick Tower
Trellick Tower now a listed building, what part of London is it in? - anyone any info on its spec', height no of floors population etc. Who designed it and opinions on architectural merit of Tower. When was it built and listed ? Was it a brave attempt at social housing. 3 bed flats now going for £400,000.
Thanks. |

Erno Goldfinger. A short biographical note: http://www.open2.net/modernity/4_10.htm
A lengthy Guardian article on the tower's fall and rise (including info that some apartments were costing £150K in 1999): http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Ar...835268,00.html and a few corrections from James Dunnett, Goldfinger's champion: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Ar...841887,00.html |

Trellick tower- designed by erno goldfinger in mid 60's
31 storeys- about 110 metres high grade II listed about 5 years ago I had the pleasure of staying there for a while and it is really fantastic, a true case of the modernist ideal at work (apart from people chucking their washing machines etc from their balconies when they were past their sell-by date, but there's some things architects can't control). shame to see that it's now become another conquest for the nouveau riche interesting trivia- the james bond 'Goldfinger'is named after Erno Goldfinger. He built several modernist houses on Ian Flemings road, therefore became the baddie in his next book! |
