It was essentially a character study and really had very little to do with any architecture this firm might have produced. Whereas the subjects might have come across as unattractive, pompous people at least the article did not try to present their buildings as being the same - unattractive and pompous. I once made the mistake of buying their coffee table book "a lost tradition" - photos of pig ugly Irish outhouses with the words "coda" and "vernacular" stapled underneath - a lost fifteen quid or whatever it was when I bought it!!!! |
