I see that the UCD Veterinary College is to relocate to a new state-of-the-art bulding in Belfield. The ownership of the Ballsbridge site is to revert back to the Government.
I wonder what will be the fate of the Ballsbridge site? The well-designed vet college buildings are very charming examples of 19th century architecture and I hope that moves are made to protect them from demolition at the hands of developers [assuming the Govt. sells the site].

Actually they're turn of the century [1900].

- you can find a few pictures and a brief history on that site.

I see in this morning's IT Commercial Property that, according to Jack Fagan,
NONE of the vet buildings are listed for preservation. The OPW is planning to redevelop the site as an office block for OPW/Govt.
What a surprise!

What?!?!
Are those REALLY turn of the century? They don't look it at all. Or perhaps my inexperience is just showing. Yep, they should be kept. The road facing aspect is pretty dull but the rest is worth saving. I wish I owned it. Lovely curved corner ala Busarus, half-cylindrical staircase outer wall.
Certainly worth keeping especially in such an architecturally impoverished place as Ireland.
Turn of the century - I still don't believe it. Design of THAT quality in Ireland THEN?

Here, Cian
I can't find the history at all on the site. Whereabouts is it?

It's still there - any idea when it's to be destroyed? [and no doubt replaced with some crass, cheap piece of crap]
How about 5 years of renovation in Ireland - perhaps we'd learn something and regain some pride?

Don't worry, it'll be there a while yet - they've only just started the new Vet building on campus (lots of mature trees RIP), and I doubt very much they'll have it finished in time for the new academic year (v. early at UCD, early Sept), so Ballsbridge is safe for another year at least.
What's the procedure for nominating a building for listing?
