This year I've decided to make a big move - from Dublin to Canada. I'm a fully qualified architect with three years experience. Firstly - are their many jobs out there? What's the best city for work? And can I expect to make a decent living out there?

First off, it's -11 here today with a wind that could strip paint. If you're still interested, I described my move to Toronto in (some) detail here: http://www.p45rant.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37200

As for cities, your best bets are Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal. There are some Ontario based jobs here: http://www.oaa.on.ca/client/oaa/OAAHome.nsf/web/Employment+Opportunities!OpenDocument

You probably won't get the same salary you would in Dublin, but the cost of living is lower and quality of life (a nebulous concept, but bear with me) is far higher. For an assistant architect without Canadian experience expect between $30 and $40k pa, depending on the office.

and bear in mind that a canadian dollar is about 0.612338 Euro

This is true. So you're talking 18.3k to 24.5k in eurobucks. Then again, I've no idea what the going rates are in Dublin these days so that may be good.

Your mileage may vary.
