Mutations by Rem Koolhaas might be worth looking at, or else just go shopping

i think its high time for a more critical look at the relationship between commercial and cultural/ social/ community buildings.
Despite the embracing of this concept by most architects- most famously Koolhaas- it seems quite shortsighted and the commercial aspect of the relationship is the one which will gain most.
Do you think culture really benefits from consumerism? or do you think there are financial gains to be made from culture? where does the balance lie in this relationship?
Koolhaas' Prada in NYC is a much praised mix of culture/ commercialism but at a price of 40 million dollars: culture for who? not the man on the street or from the projects.
I would go so far as to say the problems in the States (gun crime, obesity, lack of knowledge about the world as a whole, general f**ing megalomania) are a result of the overwhelming power of commercial interests there.
I know you're only doing one building but these thing need to be considered before architects are lead blindly into creating a world which is completely influenced by commercial decisions.
*rant over*;)
any opinions?

i think you should try and think about what your particular problems in their own situation as well as the larger issues yourself. instead of goin on the net to ask people for a concept!
it might be of more benifit to you in the long run.

american museums, since 1992, have increased exhibition space by 3% and retail spaces by 29%!(mutations,koolhaas) Pretty large but one could argue that its hardly a negative thing if it means more people going to artgalleries/museums and more accessible artistic and cultural facilities for the public.

it is realy challenging topic i think mybe the mall
should have the things that are not exist in town i consider to have the site as theater means people go from on stage to another
i know the academic way of design but the main question in my mind isif it is useful to have agiganic retail shopping center(mybe the stors are enough) and as Casual said spend money on people,edu...,...
