Went to the annual "Young Architect of the Year" award in London last night, as promoted by Building Design Magazine and published by them today.

As usual an oddly-named but good-looking pair of architects from somewhere in Europe won, having built virtually nothing and seemingly having no discernibly original style or approach.

Even the head of the judges came close to admitting it was a dull business.

Anyone else out there feel that this is a wholly meaningless and unnecessary award? Apart from the wholly admirable business of giving a few thousand quid to some hard-up architects, of course?

Its the same in many fields "Best Upcoming -------" is always just an award for awards sake.
