View Full Version : New post boxes Jas 31st July 1999, 03:13 PM Has anyone seen the new post boxes - elliptical and very slim with little of no adornment.... there's one on Baggot Street. I think they look a little odd MG 1st August 1999, 02:34 PM I've seen them and think they're hideous. Perhaps some-one could post a photo so those not familiar may see them? John Duffy 4th August 1999, 07:31 AM Oh boy are they something else. But what about the large new rectangular ones - there's one at the top of Harcourt Street - looks like a budget "Doctor Who" aliem. Paul Clerkin 10th August 1999, 07:52 AM This is the postbox on Lower Baggot Street http://www.des-ire.com/desire/images/postbox.jpg MG 10th August 1999, 10:42 AM I have heard from An Post that they have a policy of replacing all the old Victorian / Edwardian postboxes with these new variants. i think this is quiote sad as the new versions lack any real character. I can understand that the old ones may not suit todays needs and can see that they have tried to be sympathetic with the new designs but in the end they're just BLAND BORING DESIGNS. kaytay 10th August 1999, 06:09 PM it is a shame to replace the old victorian edwardian post boxes. they have little more character than a trash can. yuck. Jas 11th August 1999, 12:15 PM actually thats what it reminds me of - a large green trash can......... JC 28th August 1999, 11:27 AM The big square ones for franked mail are horendous.... there's a new one at the top of Dawson Street on St Stephen's Green. hod 2nd October 1999, 02:14 PM Does anyone know who designed them/the old ones? |
