I'm a third year landscape architect student and this is my critical study title. I would appreciate any input on this topic from both a landscape, an architecture and simply an Irish perspective.

If you look for historical examples of Irish design for a west of Ireland setting you will find Terryland in Galway as relevant as Deloras' House in Dunchaoin or Letterfraic' furniture college. You have to take everything into account when you approach the subject as broadly as you are. I think there is an Irish design - but by that I mean everything that has been designed, in this or for this or by people from this country. As for the setting, and the relevance of the design to it - isn't it just where the designs happen? I'm not saying that you shouldn't have included it, I just think it's quite revealing - and relevant - that you have. It almost renders the question rhetorical... but not quite. Sure aren't An Taisce and the Dept of Social, Rural Development and Community Affairs (or whatever they're called) at loggerheads over the very same question... (I've just realised you've probably handed in your essay months ago) |
