What is Archiseek?
Archiseek.com is an ongoing project of Paul Clerkin. The Irish part of the site, Archeire.com was started in 1997 (after an earlier small site on Dublin) and the site has continuously grown from there. The site is aimed at both the general public and the architecture community. "I want to encourage the average person to enter into the architectural debate, not to be afraid of architecture-speak and terminology. Your view is as valid as the head of any architecture body."
Archeire, has won many awards for its content and community, including two Golden Spiders (the Oscars of the Irish Internet world): one in 1997 for Best Non-Commercial site; and one in 2000 for Best Online Community / Special Interest. It has also been a runner up in 1998. In addition to the two Golden Spiders, Archeire has been singled out by many newspapers and journals over the years including Architectural Review, AJ, The Irish Times, the BBC, the New York Times, The Guardian, and Yahoo.com as a Site of the Week.
Since early 2005, the entire site is being rebranded as Archiseek, but the Archeire.com and Irish-architecture.com domains will be maintained.
How many pages are there?
At the moment, not counting the discussion forum pages, there is almost 20,000 pages of information online at Archiseek.com
What does it cover?
Ireland, since 1997, so Archiseek.com has a wealth of information on Irish architecture. We also have substantial sections on Scotland and Canada. We have smaller areas on France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the USA. And even smaller areas on England and Portugal.
Can I contribute?
Yes you can. In several ways:
Join the forums - This is the easiest way to contribute. Nothing on your country or city? Well, start a thread, other people will contribute and gradually other posters from your city or country will appear to share your interests. Don't be afraid to ask questions, no matter how daft, as we're all been there ourselves.
Submit unbuilt competition entries - Been unsuccessful in architectural competitions? We would like to hear from you our Unbuilt areas. Instead of your design languishing on a backup CD, why not show it to the world?
Submit photographs of your town or city - copyright of the image will remain with you, and you shall be credited on every page containing your photos. Unfortunately Archiseek.com cannot pay you for the use of the photographs, but occassionally we get asked by print media for use of photographs for which you may receive payment.
